Since 2012-13 Bexley District Cricket have run an Academy which has proved very popular and successful. The Academy is now embedded in our annual programme.
The aim of the Academy is to help players in years 10-13 (ages 14-18) to maximise their potential. The Academy works on developing all the attributes needed by players who go on to represent their club’s 1st XI. The intention of the Academy is also to assist talented and motivated players to access opportunities into representative county cricket and beyond.
The Academy is a challenging, quality environment where players will be offered advice from the highest quality coaches on all aspects of the modern game and, at the same time, will be mentored on what it takes to be successful in league, county and international cricket.
The off-season technical sessions are supplemented with fitness and workshop seminars, along with the opportunity for an Academy team to play seven or eight summer fixtures. These include fixtures in clubs’ cricket weeks and a Kent Area Festival. This match programme is supported by BDC partners, Teachdrivers.
We are fortunate to have secured the services of quality specialist coaches who have played and coached at the top levels of the sport. Min Patel (Kent & England) directs the monthly sessions alongside BDC's Director of Coaching, Richard O'Sullivan. In addition to Min and Richard, over the years Academy players have received coaching from top professionals such as Jimmy Adams (West Indies), Geraint Jones & Martin Saggers - Kent & England. Along with other county coaches and current professionals they have ensured the highest quality experience. For the 2017 season we will once again be involving coaches and players of the highest calibre to share their experiences. To see their profiles please visit our Guest Coaches page.
