Bashers Area Cricket Home
The Bashers is a number of age group area performance squads selected from the players in the five cricket clubs in the London Borough of Bexley. These clubs are; Belvedere CC, Bexley CC, Bexleyheath CC, Dartfordians CC and Sidcup CC. Players not in these clubs but who live, or go to school in the borough may also qualify for Bashers selection.
Selection for the Bashers is by invitation only. Young cricketers, (U10 - U14), who perform well at club level or show the potential to play at the performance level are identified via nominations from clubs and coaches across the borough. Additionally, our experienced and skilled coaching team who work in our cricket for everyone programmes help to identify and develop players to progress to this performance level. Queries regarding nominations should be made directly to our Assistant Director of Coaching.
The Bashers Area squads form part of our borough performance pathway, as in the diagram below. The squads represent the borough in a Kent Area Cricket Programme (ACP) and therefore the Bashers provide a pathway to county recognition.
The Performance Pathway in Bexley provides young cricketers with a route from 'Cricket for Everyone' through to 'County Cricket'.
Players can feature at a number of stages on this pathway and each player's journey may vary. However, this pathway helps to guide players on the route to fulfilling their potential as a cricketer, whether that is as a local club player or maybe even a future county or England star!
The Kent Area Cricket Programme (ACP) is supported by Kent Community Cricket. The county is split into 2 sections; the Southern Section and the Northern Section, both made up of four area squads. The area squads will then compete against other squads in their area as part of the Kent ACP.
The Bashers compete in the Northern Section against Bromley Bulldogs, Greenwich & Lewisham Thamesiders, and the Northern Warriors.
The aim of the area competion is to provide talented club cricketers with the platform to showcase their skills against other high performing cricketers in the county. Players who perform well in the ACP will then have the opportunity to be nominated for county trials.
Bexley District and the Bashers have been very fortunate to be supported by our partners, The British Assessment Bureau, since the inception of the competition in 1999. Their support is invaluable, allowing us to maintain a high quality programme at a reasonable cost. Therefore, reducing barriers to participation.
