Playing for the Academy should be an ambition and a privilege, and as such numbers are strictly limited. Only players who live, play or attend a school in the borough of Bexley and who we believe have demonstrated the ability and commitment through their performances and/or have shown the potential and aspiration to be good quality adult cricketers for their clubs will be invited to attend Academy sessions.
Beyond cricketing ability, we also require our Academy players to demonstrate the right attitude to training and matches, and to always be acting in the 'Spirit of Cricket'. As our most senior players, it is important that the Academy Squad members act as role models to the younger players at BDC and as such, players that are deemed to behave inappropriately will not be invited to be a part of the Academy.
Each of the four age group squads is made of up of approximately 10 players. As matches are often played encompassing more than one age group players should not expect to play in every match. Team selection is the coaches’ responsibility alongside the Academy Directors. Where possible we try to ensure that every player has an opportunity to represent the Academy, this is weighed against the need to pick teams able to compete in our strong fixture list.
